A SORT OF CINDERELLA
VILLAGERS AND CINDERELLA ON STAGE. ALL SING TO THE TUNE OF “BOYS AND GIRLS COME OUT TO PLAY”
Isn’t it a lovely day?
Now we’ve all come out to play,
Bring your racquets and join our band,
We’ll all play tennis on the sand.
Come on Margaret, come on Joan,
No one needs to be alone,
We shall all have lots of fun,
And be home ‘ere day is done.
VILLAGERS CLUSTER AROUND CINDERELLA
VILLAGER 1 Hello Cinders, can you join us today?
We’re all going down to play.
CINDERELLA Play? I haven’t got time for tennis,
My stepsisters are such a menace,
They don’t give me time to think,
Don’t even get a minute to blink!
VILLAGER 2 It really is too bad we know,
Can’t you tell them where to go?
CINDERELLA My father wouldn’t think that funny,
He married their mother for her money,
So we have to keep them happy,
Oh, it’s late, I must be snappy.
VILLAGER 3 Well, I do think it’s a shame,
Your foolish father is to blame,
Gambling has been his undoing,
Bringing you all to rack and ruin.
CINDERELLA It’s Upstairs, Downstairs at our house you know,
And I’m the one who’s down below.
EXIT VILLAGERS, CINDERELLA SWEEPS THE FLOOR, SINGING QUIETLY.
ENTER THE UGLY SISTERS, AGATHA AND BAGATHA.
AGATHA Ah Cinders, you sound much too cheerful,
Just wait ‘til we give you an earful!
